Polar Teeth Whitening

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

*Does teeth whitening really work?

Yes, teeth whitening really does work on natural teeth that have experienced surface or subsurface stains from eating, drinking, and smoking. Coffee, sodas, juices, wines, foods that stain and smoking all leave stains on or in tooth enamel. Polar Teeth Whitening systems remove these stains, kills bacteria, and will improve your overall oral health. Our customers have been very pleased with their results from our home whitening kits and other professional products.

*What is the treatment procedure?

You will mold our easy-to-use thermoform mouth trays to fit your teeth. Then you will apply a thin layer of the whitening gel inside the tray and place the tray over your teeth. Make sure that the gel only covers your teeth and does not seep over the tray onto your gums. Wipe off any excess gel. We recommend that you wear the trays 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your sensitivity level. Start with 30 minutes and then move up to 1 hour, if desired. Do not exceed 1 hour. For our Polar Pen, brush the gel onto the front of your teeth only.  Allow 30 seconds for drying.  Keep the gel on your teeth for 15 to 30 minutes.  This is our hydrogen peroxide formula and is faster acting.

*Who may benefit from teeth whitening?

Anyone who is at least 16 years of age and older will benefit from teeth whitening treatments. Teeth whitening is ideal for those who have healthy natural teeth and would like to achieve a radiant flawless smile! People who have artificial dental work or have Tetracycline discolorations usually do not obtain a great response to dental bleaching.

*Does the whitening gel cause any sensitivity?

Sensitivity may occur if treatment is left on too long or your gums are exposed to the gel. If tooth sensitivity occurs, it will be minimal. Remineralization gel is included in some of our kits or you may purchase it separately. Remineralization gel helps to reduce sensitivity and aides in strengthening tooth enamel. If gum irritation occurs, you can apply vitamin E oil to the irritated area. Gum irritation normally disappears a few hours after removing the trays with no permanent impact on gums. With gum irritation, make sure that the gel is not overflowing from trays onto the gums. In this instance, you are putting too much gel into the tray.

*Is it safe to swallow saliva during whitening treatment?

Yes, it is safe! There are no side effects related to swallowing saliva during treatment.

*How long do the teeth whitening effects last?

Teeth whitening is not permanent. For most people, the treatment will last up to a year depending on exposure to food and beverages that cause staining. Upon completion of your initial whitening treatment, your teeth are restored to their natural white color. To keep this desired shade, most people do maintenance treatments about every few months or keep a Polar Teeth Whitening pen on hand at all times for touch up whitening!

*How many Shades whiter?

This varies for each individual. Most average 4-6 shades lighter off of one treatment and up to 12 shades total!

*I already have a set of bleaching trays. Can I purchase the whitening gel alone?

Yes, Polar Teeth Whitening sells individual syringes filled with 36% carbamide peroxide gel. This refill gel is the same strength that is sold in the complete whitening kits and can be used with any dental trays.

*What if my dental tray is too large for my mouth?

If the teeth whitening tray is too large after molding, you can trim the back ends to shorten for smaller mouths and trim around the gum line to the shape of your teeth.

*Can you use whitening treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is not recommended that pregnant or nursing women engage in dental bleaching.
